Comparing and Contrasting The life Of Marjane Satrapi and A modern Muslim Girl (Hodan).
Islam is a religion of peace, But like Iran has a single story, so does Islam. Marji's single story on the religon is a dangerous,
terrible, forcing and basically everything bad you can think of. All Marji has seen through the Islamic revolution is the outcome of
her loved family members and friends dying and being jailed for sometimes even really small, pointless reasons. She does not
know doint any of this is actually against the Islamic religon, therefore she automatically belives it has to do with the Islamic
Revolution. Also, Since the veil and freedom are big parts of persopolis, But Marji doesn't know that you wearing the veil isn't what
makes you Muslim, but you're faith. The veil doesn't automatically make you muslim, but it does through other peoples eyes.
I took the time to interview a modern muslim girl (Hodan) so i could compare and contrast Marji's muslim life to her's. I asked
Hodan how shes feel's about islam and her reply was; "I love my religoin and have alot of respect for it. I think the reason i love it
so much is because i understand it and get it very well." You can tell very obvioulst and easily how Marji feels about islam in the
book. I also asked Hodan "How do you feel about the veil, and what effect does it have on you personally?"
She replied with; "Even though i
do not wear the veil all the time, i feel more complete when i am wearing it. I am judged by the people who wear the veil when i am
not wearing it. I get rude comments even when i am wearing it, but in my own way. But, It makes me feel more respected personally
and i feel more modest and comfortable when i am wearing it.", I think trhe main reason marji dislikes the veil is first, she is forced.
people will always want to rebel on something that is forced, she is a rebelious young girl who will do the oppisite as she is told.
Second, she has no idea the point of the veil, or why she has got to wear it. I think if i was in Marji's situtaion i would react in the
same way and not do as i was told, just like her. This is a whole different sitituation in america. Nobody is forced to wear something
they do not want to wear. Also, there is no wars or protests over things like the veils, because people choose to wear it (if they do)
instead of being forced, And they are respected.
